Reports from the trial surrounding Johnny Depp and Amber Heard can hardly be avoided these days. There are of course a lot of serious findings from the process, but since then numerous side scenes have also opened up. One question fans have been asking for weeks is: is Johnny Depp returning to Pirates of the Caribbean?

“Pirates of the Caribbean”

It has become somewhat confusing. First, Depp said he doesn’t want to return to the franchise. Then his defense claimed he wanted to return, but Disney dumped him. Then it was briefly said from various sources that Disney wanted him back.

The truth may be hiding somewhere — longtime series producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently shed at least some light on the matter.

Bruckheimer revealed in an interview with the Sunday Times culture magazine that Disney is actively working on a Pirates of the Caribbean film starring Margot Robbie in place of Depp, as the return of the Jack Sparrow actor is unlikely “at this point in time”.

Margot Robbie replaces Johnny Depp?

Bruckheimer was specifically asked if viewers could see Jack Sparrow again, to which he replied: “Not at the moment. The future has yet to be decided. So it’s not a clear no.”

However, Bruckheimer added: “Yes, we are in talks with Margot Robbie. We’re developing two Pirates scripts – one with her and one without her.”

Margot Robbie has been associated with the Pirates series for quite some time. Just as the original film was inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland, Robbie’s film is set to adapt an element of the ride as fans believe she could portray the female pirate Redd – a fan favorite who appears in the ride plays an important role.

As Bruckheimer notes, a screenplay without Robbie is also being developed, which will likely be a continuation of the main story. Depp’s previous post, Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017), certainly left a chink open for another sequel after hinting at the return of Davy Jones.
