New York City Announces First Vaccination Requirements for Private Business Employers in the US

New York City will require all private business employers to order their workers vaccinated against COVID- 19 by Dec. 27, without the option of alternative diagnostic testing. These are the most restrictive immunization requirements to date issued by any state or major city in the United States. Mayor Bill de Blasio said mandatory vaccination could help prevent an increase in coronavirus cases during the winter months.

Mayor Bill de Blasio : “I describe the actions we take today as a preventive measure to anticipate this problem before it deepens, resorting to the most effective: vaccination.”

Nearly 90% of New York City adult residents have received at least one dose of the COVID- 19 vaccine , representing a higher vaccination rate than the national average. This comes as coronavirus infections, hospitalizations and deaths continue to rise rapidly across the country. The official death toll from the pandemic in the United States is on track to exceed 800,000 by the end of the year.
