New Jersey is one of the states with the highest minimum wages in the United States, a trend that will continue in 2024, due to state legislation that approved annual increases.
Although the federal minimum wage is $7.25 dollars per hour, which has been in effect for 14 years, most states have approved its increase, which in some cases exceeds $15 dollars per hour. New Jersey is no exception and is making a new adjustment.

When will the minimum wage increase in New Jersey?
There are 30 states that have announced an increase to their minimum wage for 2024, but not all of them go into effect at the same time, some will do it at the beginning of the year, others, such as Oregon, will adjust it in July and Florida will apply the increase until September, as established by its legislation.
Among those states that have modified the minimum wage is New Jersey, where it is currently $14.
But as of January 1, 2024, the minimum wage in New Jersey will increase to $15 dollars per hour, this because in 2019, Governor Phil Murphy signed a law authorizing the gradual increase each year, which went into effect in 2020 and concludes in 2024.
After that date, the minimum wage increase will be given according to inflation.
Does the minimum wage increase apply to everyone?
Although most workers in the state of New Jersey will benefit from this wage increase, there are exceptions such as automobile salesmen, outside salesmen and those under 18 years of age except those working in retail trade, among others.
