Rome, Jan 25- Italian authorities have identified the first case of the Brazilian variant of coronavirus in a man who arrived days ago at Milan Malpensa airport (north) on a flight from Brazil with a stopover in Madrid, they reported today the Italian media.
The man is admitted to the hospital in the city of Varese, in the Lombardy region, after having tested positive for coronavirus.
His state of health is good and health personnel monitor his evolution, according to the same sources.
The man’s relatives have also been contacted and monitored by the Varese Health Protection Agency to see if they have been infected and prevent the variant from spreading.
Sources of the Institute of Health have defended that they have adopted “all the measures” of control and public health, following the sanitary protocols to stop the transmission of the Brazilian variant of COVID-19 in the country, and they have indicated that for the moment ” the situation is not cause for alarm.”
Italy banned on January 16 and until January 31 flights from Brazil and the arrival of people who have passed through the Latin American country in the last 14 days.
