Nine people, between Colombians and Dominicans, were detained by the United States Coast Guard, after the seizure of more than about four tons of cocaine valued at 148 million dollars in three operations carried out in the last two weeks in the Caribbean Sea.

According to information from the Coast Guard, the drug was unloaded on Tuesday at a base in Miami Beach, in South Florida.

As stated in a statement Hansel Pintos, spokesman for the Seventh District, indicated that “the strong international alliances of the Coast Guard counteract threats in the maritime sphere, protect each of our countries from transnational organized crime and work to stabilize and promote good governance. in the region”.

The statement said that one of its vessels seized more than three tons of cocaine and another seized about 680 kilos (1,200 pounds) of the drug.

While the offices of the United States Attorney for the districts of Puerto Rico, South Florida and East Virginia are processing these cases.

In this regard, the Coast Guard recalled that the fight against drug cartels in the Caribbean Sea requires a unity of effort in all phases, from ‘detection, monitoring and interdiction, to criminal prosecutions by international partners. and United States Attorney’s Offices in districts across the country.
