Numerous light shows, Christmas trees, markets and events return in person this year to the Chicago area to celebrate the holidays in style throughout December.

“ZooLights” en Lincoln Park

ZooLights,  which this year commemorates 27 years at Lincoln Park Zoo, will feature new light shows including an enchanted forest and an 18-foot tall Christmas tree with lights and decorations on display at the new wildlife center. Pepper Family.

Tickets will be available for purchase in mid-October and tickets will cost $ 5 per person Wednesday through Sunday. On Mondays and Tuesdays, admission to ZooLights will be free.

This year there are capacity limits and an online reservation is required in advance. ZooLights kicks off on November 19 and runs through January 2022.

Christmas tree lighting in Millennium Park

The lighting of the Christmas tree will take place on Friday, November 19 at 6 p.m. between Michigan Avenue and Washington Street, with live Christmas performances until 7:45 p.m.

The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events indicated that the lighting of the tree will include multiple displays throughout the park to allow for greater social distancing.

The 2021 Christmas tree is a 51-foot tall blue spruce donated by the Benavides family of Logan Square and will remain on display through January 9.

The city strongly asks all people who are going to participate in the event to wear masks and maintain an adequate physical distance as a preventive measure for COVID-19.

Ice skating at Millennium Park

The McCormick Tribune Ice Skating Rink in Millennium Park is open from November 19 to March 6. Admission is free, prices and skate rental times vary.

Christmas Market in Millennium Park

The “Millennium Park Art Market” is officially open to the public east of November 19-21 in the vicinity of the park in downtown Chicago.

You can buy handicrafts and items to decorate your tree, jewelry and gifts made from local businesses and merchants. Admission is free.

Musical performances at the Cloud Gate Plaza will take place from November 20 to December 18.

The Millennium Park Holiday Sing-Along (formerly known as “Caroling at Cloud Gate”) will also take place on Fridays from November 26 to December 17.

Christmas lights at Morton Arboretum

The beautiful annual light show “Illumination: Tree Lights at The Morton Arboretum” returns this year in person from November 20 to January 2, 2022.

This year you will be able to walk the path and see the hundreds of illuminated trees of different colors and Christmas music.

Entrance tickets cost $ 13 to $ 24 per person and $ 7 to $ 19 for members with membership.

Chicago’s traditional German Christkindlmarket returns to Daley Square this year from November 19 to December 24, with crafts, decorations and typical foods.

Maggie Daley Park Ice Skating Rink is open to the public from November 19 to February 21, 2022.

By visiting one of Chicago’s most famous breweries, you can buy your Christmas tree and explore the path between lights and decorations. It is required to make a reservation in advance and also meet the security requirements for COVID-19.

Christmas trees exhibition: “Christmas Around the World”

This year, the traditional ” Christmas Around the World” tree and light display in person returns to the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry until January 3, 2022.

The exhibition will feature Christmas traditions from nearly 40 countries, including Norway, China, the Czech Republic, Kenya, Ecuador, and others. Various holidays will also be featured, such as Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Diwali.

The museum recommends buying entrance tickets in advance and the use of masks will also be compulsory.
