American actor Andre Braugher, known for playing Captain Ray Holt in the NBC sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, died today at the age of 61 after a brief illness, according to Deadline.

The information was corroborated by his publicist Jennifer Allen to the American press.

The Chicago native was born in 1962 and graduated from Stanford University, then studied drama at Juilliard School in New York.

One of his first roles was in the film ¨Glory¨ set during the American Civil War, which won two Academy Awards.

He later won the Emmy for playing detective Frank Pembleton in ¨Homicide: Life on the Street¨ between 1993 and 1999. Another of his achievements was to be nominated for a Golden Globe for the miniseries ¨Thief¨.

He also appeared in films such as ¨An Angel in Love¨, ¨She Said¨ and recently in the last season of ¨The Good Fight¨ on Paramount +.

Always prioritizing family, Andre Braugher was not looking for a leading role that would absorb him too much at work. His beginnings in Shakespeare’s public theater forged his versatility and thanks to his talent he gave richness to his characters. There he played Henry V, Hamley and Richard II.
