Former President Donald Trump shared a Christmas message on Truth Social for Americans on Sunday, saying the United States is “dying from within” because of the “horror show” on the US-Mexico border.
“On this very cold but beautiful Christmas day, look at our nation NOW at the southern border compared to a short time ago during the Trump administration,” Trump wrote on his social media platform.
“We had the most SECURE border in our history, compared to the ‘horror show’ going on now, with record numbers of people, many of them hardened criminals (including murderers, human smugglers and drug dealers), ENTERING OUR COUNTRY at a rate like we have never seen before. America is dying from within,” he added.
Trump also wished everyone a “Merry Christmas” Saturday on his social network, including the “radical left-wing Marxists who are trying to destroy our country.”
The US-Mexico border has been a pressing issue for Democrats and Republicans recently due to increased border crossings and Title 42, Trump-era immigration policy.
The policy allows authorities to remove migrants from the United States to slow the spread of Covid-19. However, Chief Justice John Roberts temporarily extended it last Monday by implementing a stay of an appeals court ruling.
For his part, Texas Governor Greg Abbott praised the decision on Twitter, saying: “Texas and other states insist that the Court leave Title 42 in place. Today’s order is a step in that direction. This helps prevent illegal immigration.”
Meanwhile, some members of the GOP are skeptical about the Biden administration’s motives for requesting a delay in the repeal of Title 42.

Texas Sen. John Cornyn, a Republican, tweeted Tuesday: “You can’t make this up. The Biden administration feels strongly both ways on Title 42. Where is [the] secret plan once it expires? Or is it a secret that they have no plan?”
