Urban culture sneaks back into the traditional festivities of San José and the Battle of Songs of ‘Santa Battles’ recovers its place in the festive program this year. There will be 29 artists who will take to the stage of La Planchada next Saturday, the 12th, in an initiative that will begin at 4:30 p.m. and that will reward the winner with 150 euros and the pass to the national classification in the Battle of Promises.
The event was presented by the mayor, Javier Fernández Soberón, and the Councilor for Culture, Cristina Laza, in an act held in the Plenary Hall and which was attended by the young organizers.
During the presentation, Soberón assured that “every day we get closer to sacred dates such as San José and on this occasion we will once again enjoy urban culture and everything that it entails with this Battle of Songs.”
The alderman referred to the summer of 2019, “when we hosted the first event of this style and it was such a success that we wanted to repeat it at the San José festivities in 2020, but due to the pandemic, we were left without that opportunity.” Yes, it could be held in the patron saint festivities of 2021, “with a massive response from the public and participants,” said Soberón, who acknowledged that “this year we want to bring it closer to the heart of the town, to the Planchada.”
For his part, Laza highlighted “the variety of proposals for patron saint festivities that will have options for all tastes and ages, such as this battle of songs that will surely attract a large audience.” “We continue to rely on responsible young people who help bring and organize these types of events that are so attractive to music lovers,” he added.
“We have received many applications, so unfortunately we have had to leave people out of the cartel. In the event that any of the preselected participants cannot attend, the next ones on the list will be notified”, confirmed Iván Valdivielso, known in the world of rap as ‘Shoga’.
From the organization of the event, they wanted to thank “the predisposition” of the City Council of El Astillero to celebrate an event that will consist of “a selection of 29 artists who will present their songs in a first round, from which 16 participants will perform the battle between them until there is a winner.”
