Desiree Rivas, a 17-year-old high school cheerleader, was fatally shot leaving a party over the weekend in Arizona.

A high school cheerleader was fatally shot after leaving a house party over the weekend in Arizona, authorities said.

According to a press release from the Phoenix Police Department, authorities identified the victim as Desiree Rivas, while the suspect or suspects remain at large.

Desiree, the 17-year-old high school student, was pronounced dead at the scene outside a Phoenix home just after midnight Sunday, local media outlet KPNX-TV reported.

Her cheerleading squad at Cesar Chavez High School confirmed her death in an Instagram post.

“It is with the utmost regret that I post about the tragic loss of our amazing friend, athlete and student Desiree,” read the team’s post.

“Our hearts are broken in a million pieces. There will be additional counselors on campus to help us through this tremendous loss. May Dessy rest in peace and be surrounded by love and light. We love you, Desiree,” the statement added.

During a vigil earlier this week in Desiree’s honor, the victim’s father called her “a beautiful person and an amazing soul. She was a role model for everyone. She was one of the people you wanted to be with,” according to the media outlet.

Unfortunately, police have not made any arrests in connection with this crime, but they asked that anyone with information about the case should call Phoenix Police or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
