The big giants of the entertainment industry are moving in the same direction and generating enormous controversy in their wake. In tough economic times, companies like Netflix, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram…started to make their services more expensive, meeting some resistance from their customers.
All based on the controversy of their decisions. We see how Netflix had to take a step back from its announced strategy to end shared accounts for free and has already relaxed its requirements as well as launched offers so as not to lose customers.
Twitter was the platform that paved this controversial path at the hands of Elon Musk starts billing with Twitter Blue for high-demand services among its customers for years such as the blue check or the possibility of editing messages. Now they’ve even removed “two-step authentication” from their free service and will start charging for it.
And the latest to join the list were Facebook and Instagram. Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that Meta will start a new stage very soon which includes a payment service for the use of certain premium services of its two social networks.
The aspect that most outraged many of its users was, once again, the fact of having to pay to have a verified account. The blue check becomes an element of payment, which has generated a gigantic number of problems on Twitter whose legal repercussions remain to be seen.
It is curious that Twitter and Facebook or Instagram have decided that aspects such as the check or the account security should be something users have to pay for. At least that’s how it is dropped in the news presented by Meta.
The premium service which will cost between 12 and 14 dollars a month! includes “proactive account protection, access to account support, and increased visibility and reach.” Whoever uses both social networks will need to have two different subscriptions.
The fact that these social networks reward payment for visibility rather than content is another aspect that has generated the most controversy. Zuckerberg made it clear in his official Instagram profile: “The premium service will give prominence to certain areas of the platform, such as search, reviews, and recommendations.”
Australia and New Zealand will start receiving the premium pack from next week. When will you arrive in Spain? Would you pay to use Facebook or Instagram?
