NEW JERSEY — A raging fire engulfed a three-story apartment building in Hudson County, New Jersey early Friday, authorities said. The fire reached four alarms within 20 minutes of starting, they added.
The call reporting the fire in Union City near 19th Street and Kerrigan Avenue came in around 5:15 a.m. Friday. Firefighters battled intense blazes as smoke choked the air for the second day in a row, following a blaze in Weehawken.
However, the building on fire on Friday was larger than that on Thursday. The roof and the top floor, at least, were completely destroyed. The Telemundo 47 helicopter hovered over the scene as firefighters sprayed hot spots.
No injuries were reported, authorities said, but several residents were displaced.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
