Several lanes of Highway 405 were closed Thursday due to police activity as the death of one person is investigated.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported around 2:20 a.m. that several of the transition lanes between southbound Highway 405 and Highway 105 were closed due to police activity.
Later, at 3:08 a.m., the CHP reported that Highway 405 lane number 5 will remain closed in the Hawthorne area for 4 hours.
Transition lanes between Highways 405 and 105 have been opened.
Authorities have asked to avoid the area and take different highways if you need to travel in the area.
Images captured by the Telemundo 52 helicopter show that traffic was blocked for miles. The closure of part of the highway adds to the traffic which is normally heavy at this time of day.
If you must travel to LAX International Airport, it is important that you leave early as traffic will be heavy for the next few hours.
