NEW YORK — Authorities are investigating a suspected fight Monday on a Manhattan subway in which one of those involved later died, New York police said.
According to police information, the incident occurred around 2:25 p.m. inside an F line train at Broadway and Lafayette Street station in the Noho district. Upon arrival at the scene, they found an unconscious 30-year-old man who was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Upon investigation, authorities found that prior to the discovery, the 30-year-old man and a 24-year-old man allegedly had an argument which ended in a physical fight. The younger allegedly tried to arrest the deceased person who, according to reports, was believed to be the attacker.
Authorities briefly took the 24-year-old for questioning, but he was later released.
Police have not released details of what led to the scuffle and the man’s cause of death. Authorities said the 30-year-old had previously been arrested, but the nature of those offenses was not immediately clear.
This is a case under investigation.
