The Miami-Dade Department of Water and Sewerage has issued a no-swimming advisory for several beaches near Biscayne Bay due to sewage dumping in that area.

The affected beaches are Joia Beach, Venetian Causeway Park, Watson Island Marina and Yacht Haven Grand Miami Marina. The public is also urged to avoid other aquatic recreational activities such as fishing and boating in this area.

According to a statement, Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department crews repaired a 12-inch sewer pipe that ruptured in the area of 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail, and the rupture resulted in the spillage of approximately 5,000 gallons of pipeline wastewater.

According to the department, personnel recovered about 2,200 gallons, but some of the remaining 2,800 gallons entered Biscayne Bay, hence the no-swim advisory.
