NEW YORK — A 20-year-old man is facing charges in the brutal stabbing death of his mother inside their New York home, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced Thursday.
Dennis Cho, of Flushing, was charged with seven counts of second degree murder, two counts of first degree criminal contempt, two counts of third degree assault, fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree harassment, Katz said.
According to the charges, Cho was at his home on February 24 between 1 and 2 p.m. with his mother, Hyun Sook Lee, 59, when he stabbed her repeatedly in the back, killing her.
Cho also reportedly had an altercation with his father, 61-year-old Seong Woo Choo, which ended with his father being cut on his hand. After hurting him, Cho also started strangling him.
“The defendant is charged with stabbing his mother to death in cold blood, a crime as horrific as can be. It was a brutal attack that no family should have to endure,” Katz said.
Cho is due back in court on May 3. If convicted, he faces a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
Information about Cho’s attorney was not immediately available.
