After a year of almost no news of the live-action adaptation of the classic disney, Los Aristogatos, Deadline has unveiled new details that will somewhat ease the angst of fans of the mouse factory. Because the project is gaining momentum with a renowned musical figure in charge: the rapper Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson.

The entertainer, rapper, director and producer is a regular face on American TV programming thanks to his fanda Roots. Indeed, their adaptations with toy musical instruments of songs by world stars are always content that quickly goes viral on the networks.

But also, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson forged a gigantic reputation within Disney after serving as one of the music consultants for Soul. Oscar winner for his achievement in the documentary soul summerthis adaptation will mark his directorial debut.

It will do this by adapting the classic The Aristocats to live action cinema, although in reality it will use hybrid technology mixed between animation (like The Lion King) and live action for human characters. 53 years later, the director has a serious challenge in front of him facing a film so recognized by millions of viewers around the world.

Among the rest of the details, we learned from Deadline that Will Gluck and Keith Bunin will be responsible for the screenplay while Tarik Trotter, Shawn Gee and Zarah Zohlman will be the executive producers of this new version.

Disney continues to profit from the vein implied by the adaptation of its traditional animated films to new, more modern formats, producing blockbusters such as Aladdin or The Lion King. Dumbo, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast have already gone through these adaptations… and very soon The Little Mermaid too, the first of which continues to make a lot of noise.

At the moment, its release date is unknown, as well as its release location. While the vast majority of Disney’s live-action releases have gone straight to the big screen, others like Lady and the Tramp have streamed straight to Disney+.

The Aristocats is one of the factory’s animated classics released in the 1970s. The film tells the story of a few kittens, heirs to a fortune, and the obsession of their owner’s butler to keep them away. And all with the most street Paris as a backdrop, of course.
