“my hero academia“Perhaps this is a story that mainly revolves around the eternal battle between the One For All and the All For One, as well as the figure of Deku and his relevance as the one who, in theory, will eventually end to this war of superheroes and supervillains. However, the truth is that there are also other mysteries in franchise lore that give cause for discussion, and certainly Dabi’s identity is something that has long forced all sorts of raised eyebrows.
Dabi, the villain of My Hero Academia
- Dabi is a character that attracts attention from the first moment thanks to his design: a long and thin character in a dark outfit that stands out for his “raincoat”. However, what really grabs the attention of his person is all that burnt, stapled skin that goes from the neck to the arms.
- We know Dabi’s character “simply” as one more member of the League of Villains. Thus it is indeed a name with which the reader/viewer quickly becomes familiar because represents a primary and constant threat as well as other names such as Shigaraki or Toga.
- As for his gift, ‘blue flame‘, this one is particularly striking due to the fact that fires blue flames. In some of his early outbursts, it’s easy to see that Dabi has no problem covering large areas with the power of his flames, and he also shows no mercy to anyone in front of him.
- On a character level, at least during his early arcs as a My Hero Academia villain, he’s seen as someone reserved and simply with the predisposition to ‘be for work’.
Dabi, the truth about his identity in My Hero Academia (SPOILERS)
- Obviously, in the end, Dabi doesn’t end up being “just another villain” in My Hero Academia lore. In fact, the main revelation that is made about him and that motivates each of the character’s intentions from the beginning of the story, is neither more nor less the one that confirms him as Toya Todoroki, Endeavor’s eldest son and consequently Shota Todoroki’s brother.
- Originally Endeavor, All Might’s rival and the one who inherits the No. 1 hero position after the latter’s retirement, had an overwhelming obsession to get the better of him. Such is so, that sought a marriage of convenience in order to father a descendant who possessed sufficient power become the new benchmark for superheroes.
- Thus, Endeavor marries Rei Todoroki, who naturally possesses ice powers. Toya TodorokiAKA Dabi, is the first of the sons of the family, and the one who actually owns llamas of even greater power than Endeavor… although all this marked by a disadvantage: he could not bear the power of their own flames (Perhaps, for this reason, Dabi will have this decrepit appearance when he is older).
- Faced with the reality that he couldn’t force his son into a situation that would cost him his life, Endeavor forced him to put aside his superhero training and decided to continue having children.. This, however, didn’t have the best impact on Toya.
- Between the frustration of being left out by others like Shota and that Endeavor had a terrible character as a father (even going so far as to punch his mother when she lost him), Toya decided to keep doing things his way..
- One day he managed to create flames of incredible power himself and invited his father to see them on his usual training ground. However, Endeavor never attended the meeting. Frustration made Toya losing control of his flames and setting an entire forest on fire, tricking Endeavor and the rest of his family into thinking he had died in the fire.
- However, Toya survives with one goal: to destroy and assassinate a father who pushed him away like a broken toy.. The masterstroke in Toya’s plan comes with the national revelation (as Dabi) that he is Endeavour’s son.. This, on the one hand, leaves Endeavor completely mentally broken, and on the other hand, it deals a terrible blow to the reputation of the heroes. Dabi’s character also changes completely at this point, becoming something of a madness-possessed “Joker”.
Clearly, Dabi has one of the most complex stories in ‘My Hero Academia’, and personally, between one thing and another, I have to say that he ended up becoming one of my favorite characters. If despite all these explanations someone has asked questions about the character, do not hesitate to ask!
