The Japanese company assured that it did not have the necessary means to compete with CoD

Things are starting to get really tense between Microsoft and Sony due to the ongoing legal battle to approve or cancel the acquisition of ActivisionBlizzard. PlayStation owners fear that the loss of the Call of Duty franchise makes them lose their advantageous position in the market, while those of Xbox assure that they do not plan to make said IP exclusive to their systems.

last week on CMA (UK Competition and Markets Authority) has published a series of reports compiling Sony official statements in response to the purchase proposal issued by Microsoft, and among them stood out the one that indicated that “they couldn’t compete with Microsoft if Call of Duty became exclusive to Xbox”. Now we get the official response from the other side.

Microsoft responds strongly to Sony

  • According to reports from VGCthere The CMA has released a new document in which is collected Microsoft’s official response to Sony’s recent statements on Call of Duty
  • Xbox officials were very clear: “10 years is long enough for Sony, As a leading console publisher and platform, can develop alternatives to Call of Duty”
  • A few days ago, the Japanese entity said that none of your IPs First party could be compared to said saga in terms of playing hours, income or budgetand as an example they put Destiny 2
  • Nevertheless Microsoft “doesn’t accept” Sony’s argument and would be willing to continue to offer you the same deal Nintendo agreed to a few weeks ago: that for 10 years the Call of Duty saga continues to reach PlayStation consoles
Call of Duty

Personally I can understand the position of both companies. Sony knows that if they lose access to Call of Duty in the future, it will affect them greatly, as it is still one of the biggest franchises in the entire digital entertainment industry.

And on the other hand, I also understand Microsoft, because they’re making enough concessions in the short to medium term to get the deal going and it’s hard to believe that a company as big as Sony “can’t not” create a shooter that can compete with CoD within ten years.

What do you think?
