The Department of Police of Tallahassee reported this Wednesday on his Twitter account that he found the body of Jorge Díaz-Johnston on January 8 in Jackson County, Florida.
The man had been reported missing on January 3, police added. Authorities are investigating the incident as a homicide.
The results of the autopsy have not yet been released.
Diaz-Johnston, 54, was the brother of Manny Diaz, current leader of the Democratic Party in Florida and former mayor of Miami.
Díaz-Johnston supported the Hispanic community and was a strong advocate for the rights of the LGBTQ community. She was even part of a lawsuit in favor of same-sex marriage, always supported by her husband, Don Johnston.
After knowing the discovery, Manny Díaz tweeted this Thursday that his brother was a special “gift” to the world and his heart and legacy will live on for generations to come.
The Democratic leader in Florida also thanked the Tallahassee Police Department and local authorities who worked “relentlessly” to locate and investigate the circumstances of Díaz-Johnston’s disappearance.
