Miami Beach Pride capped off two weeks of gay pride festivities with its 15th annual parade, an event that drew more than 170,000 people from around the world.

With community leaders like Commissioner Michael Góngora, who was Miami Beach’s first openly gay commissioner, Miami Beach Pride was established in 2009.

“Now with what’s going on in Florida, with all the legislation that discriminates against LGBTQ people, it’s important that we be resilient as we celebrate Pride and people know that in Miami Beach everyone is welcome. “, said Góngora.

In the middle of the parade, all you can see are the colors of the rainbow celebrating the LGBTQ community. It really gives the sense of community and reference to this year’s parade theme which is “Growing Stronger Together”.

Mayor Dan Gelber said “who you are has been attacked with anti-gay rhetoric coming from Tallahassee,” referring to Florida law.

“Our lawyers are always suing to advance the cause, so for me this is one of the great fights we can be in for human decency and no one should be discriminated against for who they are,” said Mayor Gelber.
