The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office released a statement identifying the human remains that were found in Lake Mead in July and August of last year and confirming that they are the same person.

According to the medical examiner, the various parts of the skeleton found by visitors to Boulder Beach belong to Claude Russell Pensinger, who lived in Las Vegas. Pensinger disappeared on July 14, 1998, when he was 52 years old.

The identification of the man is based on DNA analysis and the cause of his death is unknown at this time.
