JK Rowling will oversee the Harry Potter remake, but won’t be showrunner
Everything seems to indicate that Warner Bros. closes in on deal to greenlight Harry Potter series which could work as a redo of the film saga. At the same time, it would be a new adaptation of the books written by JK Rowlingeach season covering one of the novels as was already done with feature films.
Bloomberg, a renowned international media, assures that Warner Bros. hopes the series can be a key part of HBO Max’s evolution as a platform for streaming, being the first of his major projects. However, the agreement has not yet been concluded, but there has been talk of role that JK Rowling would have in this redo of Harry Potter.
JK Rowling wouldn’t showrunner from the Harry Potter series, but…
Think that Harry Potter books are on average 500 pages (early, less; later, and mostly The order of the Phoenix, further away). In 8 or 10 hours per season, the literary version can be explored much better than in a film of 2h30 maximum. For this reason, JK Rowling would be involved in the development of the Harry Potter series, but her role would not work like that of showrunnerhis participation would therefore be less than that of an executive producer.
Why JK Rowling can’t be showrunner? Her ongoing comments against the trans community have angered the writer’s fans, even calling for a boycott of any products related to her that could earn her income. In this way, the screenwriter will simply verify that the adaptation is faithful to the source material, without getting involved in the day-to-day production.
When will the Harry Potter series be confirmed for HBO Max?
you will know that HBO Max is about to receive a new name: simply renamed Max, Warner Bros.. wants to lead a new strategy in the world of streaming. And making IP content already known to the public is one of its pillars. In this way, the Harry Potter series could be announced at the same time as the evolution of HBO Max to Max is announcedif the project receives the green light.
