The miniseries was nominated for Forqué, Feroz and Platino awards for the portrayal of Maribel Verdú
“A solid thriller“, “can lead us to a safe harbor“oh”solvent production” are just some of the adjectives in the specialized press that I had read on Ana Tramel: The Game before its premiere in netflix. Although it is also available for free on RTVE Play since 2021, we had to wait for the arrival on the platform of streaming the most consumed in our country that I have been able to follow. And luckily I did, because after having swallowed its 6 chapters one after the otherI came across one whodunnit very addictive that lasts less than 6 hours and can be seen in two nights (and even in one).
What is Ana Tramel: The Game about?
Ana Tramel (Maribel Verdu) is a brilliant criminal lawyer living her lowest hours. But a call from his brother alexander (Unax Ugalde), who has not seen or heard from him for years, makes him start again: He explains that he was accused of the murder of the manager of the Gran Castilla casino.. To try to defend him at all costs, he will surround himself with a small team of trust and will face a huge game industry company in Spain.
Is it worth watching Ana Tramel: The Game on Netflix?
I think you need to give Ana Tramel: The Game Beyond Its First Chapter a chance. when you finish it, you may have the false sensation of being in front of a whodunnit further, an intriguing series that does enough to be correct, but without trying to stand out. However, this is all a facade, partly because of an obvious lack of ambition technically (Looks like a cheap series, I won’t fool you). This is the scenario that shines the most when enjoying Roberto Santiago’s novel (who is also the creator of the adaptation) and take us by the hand through a case with many more edges which he seemed to have at first.
It is true that the script can fall into quite a few topics of the genre: i.e. if you have seen more than one whodunnit Spanish in recent years you will be accustomed to storytelling more classic. A murder, a culprit who does not seem to be guilty and a murderer who is still free. However, the debate on the game that opens is quite interesting: We see in the first person the consequences of addiction, the lobby of the betting houses and the problems hidden behind the big casinos. A complaint against a sector until recently untouchable.
Finally, I emphasize the interpretation of Maribel Verdua brilliant actress struggling to outpace a lawyer with personality and determination to do anything. On the other hand, the presentation of the rest of the characters takes so much time, that you are eagerly awaiting the end of this prologue. As for the casting itself, beyond its protagonist, no interpretation stands out.
Eventually, you have to see beyond the first chapter to get completely addicted to Ana Tramel: The Gamea series that you will devour like thousands of subscribers to netflix In Spain. And of course I recommend it if you like the whodunnit because you will enjoy for 6 hours a very interesting case, with which all forms of gambling are criticized.
