A SpaceX rocket is set to lift off Monday from the California coast with another batch of internet satellites on board.

Falcon 9 is scheduled to launch at 11:38 a.m. from Vandenberg Space Force Base, northwest of Los Angeles. The rocket will carry 51 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit.

The first stage thruster will revert to a drone in the Pacific Ocean. Depending on cloud cover, the first-stage flame and contrail could be visible up to 100 miles away, according to Vandenberg Space Force Base.

What are Starlink satellites?

SpaceX has a constellation of Starlink satellites that orbit Earth about 340 miles high. Satellites have been carried into space by SpaceX rockets.

The Starlink network is designed to deliver high-speed Internet anywhere in the world.

Can I see Starlink satellites in orbit?

Yes, sometimes they put on a heavenly show. If the lighting conditions are perfect, the satellites appear in a train as they pass through the night sky.

Satellites are sometimes visible in the first few minutes after sunset and before sunrise when the sun is below the horizon, but the satellites are high enough to reflect direct sunlight.
