A word that defines very well Shazam! The fury of the gods it is continuity. David F. Sandberg did not change the rules of the game and was limited to a simple ‘more, but still. Yes, the sequel to the funniest movie of all time DC Extended Universe It’s full of action, jokes of questionable quality and a youthful adventure film aura that gives it some of its charm. However, yes I expected a greater ambition to go further, despite the fact that the franchise is about to undergo a reboot and we don’t know what will happen to this character (or us?). The big problem is that adding more spectacular, some of the heart of the first film was lost along the way.
Anyway, I had a lot of fun at the movies, mostly because Shazam! The fury of the gods does not take long to act, and the general result satisfied me enough to speak well of it. However, many of the problems of the first installment are still present, because rather unbalanced protagonism of the group, a humor passed by the wireand as a novelty, a romantic relationship that puts between zero and nothing. So is it worth paying a ticket to see Shazam! The fury of the gods?
Shazam! The Fury of the Gods is above all an epic adventure
The formula of this suite follows the rules of each adventure: a conflict that is known from the first minutes of the films, a group of misfits who transform into superheroes overnight and several plot twists to try to surprise the viewer. Along the way we meet universal themes such as “unity is strength”, friendship or camaraderie, along with very bad villains who end up showing their most human side. Besides, generic antagonists despite being played by Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and Rachel Weisz…
Like an adventure movie Shazam! Fury of the Gods works better than Black Adamto compare it with the last installment of the DC Extended Universe. There’s a sense of danger, the group of antagonistic goddesses put our superheroes in big trouble, and the action sequences are very well resolved. It’s as appreciated as the first half, Shazam is Shazam and has the heart of a youth film we saw years ago.
The problem comes when in his latest opus, Shazam! Fury of the Gods turns into another superhero moviewith the same result we have been witnessing for a decade (or more): large set pieces of action, the occasional hole in the script and Deus Ex machine to solve situations that seemed impossible. This is the main problem facing the genre, but especially the DC Extended Universe or whatever his name is now. The characteristics that make a superhero movie have been the same for years, which is why more ambitious projects that deviate from the norm, like Joker oh The boys in the field of television, they succeed and do not fail.
A promising future
Beyond its characters (including the more than obvious imbalance that exists between one and the other) and its fun story (without being shocking, it perfectly fulfills its function of bringing the world to the brink of extinction), which I liked the most Shazam! The fury of the godsit was the construction of a universe that could have a continuity if the diet james gunn Don’t throw everything away. Without doing none spoilers of its post-credits scenesscared me because the character of Shazam pokes fun at the DC Extended Universe’s past to invite us all into this Warner Bros. prepared us. However, I wonder if these databases have been installed by the new directive, or if the contents of said sequences will go completely unnoticed, fall back into the error of presenting a Cinematic Universe that is not coherent.
Moreover, it would be a real shame if the DC Universe did not take into account what happens at the end of Shazam! The fury of the gods when those two post-credits scenes were the franchise’s best yet. Or at least the ones that got me most excited because of all that can influence the future.
