They are calling for a reallocation of TPS for Nicaraguans amid the socio-political crisis the country is going through.
Several pro-immigrant organizations protested outside the Miramar immigration office today demanding a reassignment of TPS Temporary Protected Status for the Nicaraguan community amid the severe socio-political crisis the country is going through.
Yarelis Méndez of the Florida Immigrant Coalition says, “On February 10, 272 organizations signed a letter sent to the White House asking the administration to reallocate TPS”
And Berta, a community organizer, says “we all know that Nicaragua has humanitarian parole. It means that the administration recognizes that there is a socio-political problem in the country, and that does not benefit those of us who are already here.
If this reassignment is approved, some 50,000 Nicaraguans who arrived in the country illegally in recent years could benefit from this temporary immigration permit, which allows them to work and live legally in the United States.
“When there is a reassignment, it means new Nicaraguans can enter the program and be protected.”
According to these pro-immigrant organizations, approving this reallocation of the TPS is a great relief for the Nicaraguan community which has been fleeing the Sandinista dictatorship and has been living in the shadows for years.
