Hundreds of students across the state marched against Gov. Ron DeSantis’ education proposals that they say discriminate against LGBTQ students.
Students have raised their voices against the governor’s education policies.
FIU was attended by students from other institutions, such as Miami Dade College. Participate in a state march called “can’t ban us”, which in Spanish means they can’t ban us.
The Governor assured a press conference today that learning about the history of, for example, slavery is a requirement in the state.
However, the students say DeSantis intends to ban state universities from using funds to support diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
The students also believe their privacy has been compromised, since last month the state requested information about students receiving sex-affirming treatments at universities. In short, the FIU replied that it does not provide this type of treatment.
A total of 12 universities would have received this request. CRF students hoped to meet with members of the university’s board of trustees to communicate their views directly to them.
