The city of The mountain will provide a guaranteed income program for low-income families or residents.
The guaranteed income program will provide $500 per month, for one year, and is funded by the American Rescue Act to help those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is one of the most direct ways to distribute ARPA funds to the most vulnerable residents of our El Monte community,” said El Monte City Manager Alma Martinez.
Initiating Change in Our Neighborhoods (ICON-CDC) provides free services to sellers, business owners, or those who wish to become small entrepreneurs.
“We are proud to partner with the RAND Corporation, one of the most respected research organizations that will administer and evaluate the program.”
Requirements to apply for financial assistance include:
- Be a single female head of household with no spouse or partner present
- Living within the city limits of El Monte
- Have children living at home aged 0-17
- Have a verified income at or below the federal poverty level (as per 2023 U.S. Department of Commerce guidelines)
- Be able to demonstrate the need for financial assistance due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic
- Present documents that verify proof of city residency, economic income, and government-issued ID.
“We look forward to joining other cities across the United States who are using their resources to strive to make a difference in their communities by exploring new models of direct support for those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.” , Martinez said.
Applications will be accepted online, in person or by mail. The deadline is April 15, 2023.
