He Bulgarian actor Christo Jivkov, known for having participated in films as emblematic as The passion of Christ, died on April 1 in Los Angeles at the age of 48, As confirmed by Red Carpet, the production company the performer helped found a few years ago.
“Today we lost our dear friend and dear colleague Christo Jivkov, one of the founders of Red Carpet. There are no words to describe the pain of this loss. We will never forget you!”, they wrote of the company in a brief, but very moving, statement posted on Facebook.
Since Red Carpet, they have not indicated the causes of the actor’s death, which are still not public two days after his death. However, although neither his company representatives nor the Sofia interpreter’s family have detailed what led to Zhivkov’s death, the the international press points to lung cancer which the actor reportedly struggled with for a few years.
Saint John in The Passion of the Christ
Although Christo Jivkov trained as an assistant director, he worked most of his career as an actor, appearing in more than a dozen productions around the world, including his role as Saint John in the film at success of 2004. The passion of Christin which he worked alongside big names in the industry like Jim Caviezel and Monica Bellucci, among others.
After that, Jivkov was part of the cast of titles as The Chamber of Accounts, Inchiesta L‘y steal the light, and even, as the specialized film press points out, he was considering joining the cast of the sequel to The passion of Christ which is set to release in 2024 worldwide.
