Drew Barrymore had been suffering from an alcohol problem for many years, and she experienced a relapse during her divorce from actor Will Kopelman. Her friend Cameron Diaz opened up about those tough times and revealed how supportive she was for Drew.
Drew Barrymore did not have an easy life. She started acting when she was only 7 years old by becoming the main role in “ET,” and since then, she has not stopped working. Personal problems pushed her to drink and the use of other toxic substances, and at the age of 14, she ended up being admitted to a rehab center.
Although the actress has reached a moment of personal and professional stability, she suffered a significant setback in 2019 after her divorce from Will Kopelman, with whom she was from 2012 to 2016. However, this separation became effective three years later.
This hard blow sent her back to the bottom, and she fell into a deep depression and started drinking again. It was not until she got her TV show, “The Drew Barrymore Show,” when she realized she had to go back to rehabilitation. “I kept thinking, ‘I’m going to master this. I’m going to figure it out.’ And finally, I realized, ‘You’ve never mastered this, and you never will,'” she said in an interview.
Cameron Diaz’s help for Drew Barrymore
Beside her were her friends, who feared that she would come out of the deep hole she had entered, and one of them was Cameron Diaz, with whom she shared the filming of “Charlie’s Angels,” a film in which they starred with Lucy Liu.
“(It was) hard to see,” the actress admitted. “But I knew that if everyone supported her and gave her the help she needed, she would find her way,” she said.
“I have absolute confidence in her. You can’t even understand how hard it was to be her when she was a child, then shot to stardom with the ability to save herself,” Cameron said.
With all the support Drew Barrymore has received, she has managed to climb out of the hole she put herself in and is now happy and successful in every aspect.
