Detectives were investigating the death of a man who was found burned to death inside a pickup truck near a popular Woodland Hills walking trail.

A burning truck was reported around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday on Mulholland Trail, located on Alhama Drive. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 30-year-old Joel Ravin.

Detectives are considering the death suspicious because they detected an accelerant.

“I saw this morning when it was happening. We were watching from our roof, and we could only see the smoke, and then we could see the van where we live from. So it was kind of crazy,” said Kai Champley, who lives in the area.

Video of the incident showed the truck engulfed in flames, amid a cloud of smoke. When the fire was extinguished, detectives found the man’s body in the middle of the vehicle.

The death is being investigated as a homicide.
