The long weekend of May is already here and for this reason the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) has launched this same Friday April 28, a special operation to check the roads. As detailed by the agency itself, up to more than 6 million journeys are expected on the roads in the coming days, which has led toIncrease the number of speed cameras at different points for the sole purpose of ensuring road safety.
In addition, the DGT recommends carefully following the weather forecasts of the National Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and plan the trip always choosing the safest route and avoiding as much as possible unforeseen events that may arise. For this reason, the agency recommends checking the state of the roads on its official map, which allows detailed and up-to-date information on the various roads, notifying possible detentions, accidents and even possible road cuts.
Hours drivers should avoid
Although it is obvious to leave at a time that does not coincide with the mass departure of the rest of the drivers, it is quite a challenge on holiday days like these. But it is true that, if you leave this same Friday, April 28, the traffic forecasts indicate that the most buoyant sections have already started and will continue so until 11 p.m..
Although if you are traveling on the same Saturday, it is best to do so after lunch to avoid unnecessary delays, as the greatest influx is expected to be fromfrom 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.both at the entrances and exits of the main urban centres.
With regard to the return, the DGT informs that major complications can arise during the Monday, May 1 between 4:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. in practically all regions, except in the Community of Madrid, since citizens will be able to enjoy one more day of vacation since May 2 is a public holiday in the autonomous region.
In this way, the return operation in the Madrid region is delayed until May 2 and it is scheduled only between 1:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. there is a lot of congestion on the roads. Therefore, as is logical, it is recommended to avoid these possible complications by starting the trip in the less crowded time slots.
So be patient, press play to enjoy good music, stop frequently and be aware of the updated information that DGT will provide from its interactive map and signs on the roads, as this will help to design an alternative route to get home safely.
