NEW JERSEY – A family is heartbroken as they mourn the death of their beloved, Mucielouise Bostic, a mother of four who was killed in a car crash in Newark early Monday morning on her way home her after a shift as a night nurse.
“I will never see her, I will never see her…it will always hurt,” Mucielouise’s mother, Jennifer, said.
“I have to be strong for them,” Jennifer continued, referring to her grandchildren. “And be positive for them. Because you can never take his mother’s place.
This tragic family loss was made even more devastating when the Bostic family had to find out about it on a local media blog.
They rushed to University Hospital for information, but were told there was no trace of Muciekouise in the system. As of Thursday morning, they had not received any phone calls or visits from the police to inform them of what had happened.
“If they had this incident, why didn’t they tell the parents about it?” said Jennifer.
The Bostic family were asked to contact the medical examiner’s office, but were told they had to do so by email. They couldn’t understand why someone couldn’t pick up the phone and call them. Our sister network NBC 4 New York contacted the state medical examiner’s office, but they were unavailable for comment after hours.
Community activists and other local leaders in Elizabeth, where the family lives, have called the Newark Police Department, but say they are still hanging around. Family members weren’t even able to identify the body on Thursday.
“The district attorney’s office said we weren’t going to touch it, they sent it back to the municipal level…at the municipal level, nobody contacted the family,” said community activist James Carey. Very, very unprofessional.”
NBC 4 New York contacted Newark police, who confirmed the crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Monday. They said a car lost control and crashed into this building. However, they said nothing about notifying the family.
“How can you properly cry or prepare to bury your son when you don’t know…you don’t know what’s going on,” Carey said.
However, in the midst of News 4 New York working on this story, an update has occurred. The Bostic family finally heard from the police on Thursday evening after our investigations. Police said they originally tried to contact a family member in Newark, but were unable to reach the relative.
Now the Bostics can begin the funeral planning process, but they say no family should have to wait that long to learn of the death of a loved one.
“There is no consideration. There are no more feelings,” Jennifer said.
