A possible explosive inside a home wreaked havoc in the Lincolnwood community in Boca Raton on Tuesday. According to authorities, the man pulled the safety of a grenade and entered the house. For hours, the authorities tried to convince him to come out. Unfortunately, he was found dead after shooting himself.
“We all raised our children in this quiet little neighborhood and nothing like this has ever happened. Now I have next generation grandchildren and I was just walking around with my grandson. When all this started, I saw the SWAT team arrive and it was very distressing,” said a neighbor.
Authorities say it was a call they received after two o’clock on Tuesday afternoon, where a person reported that a man had given him a pin that appeared to be from a grenade, then went home.
“It’s very scary because you don’t know, they say you have an explosive but you might have a lot, your house might have traps, there are so many things that can happen,” a neighbor said.
Authorities were forced to close off part of Palmetto Park Rd and even evacuate residents of nearby homes. Meanwhile, negotiators tried for hours to convince the man to come out. With them, the SWAT team, the drone unit and the bomb squad. It was thanks to the robotic equipment that entered the house that they confirmed that the man had committed suicide.
Authorities said they found an explosive device that was removed by deminers on Tuesday evening.
