A teenager died and another was in critical condition on Friday after one tried to save the other from drowning in a lake in northwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.
Miami-Dade firefighters responded around 3 p.m. to 1100 NW 99th Street near Arthur Woodard Park after receiving a call from two people in the water.
The teens were playing near the lake when another teen pushed one of them into the water, Miami-Dade police said at a news conference. Another teenager then intervened to try to save him. Neither could swim, police said.
Firefighters said three divers were looking for the victims in the lake.
The two teenagers were pulled from the water and taken to local hospitals. One died and the other remains in critical but stable condition.
Police have not released the ages or identities of the victims and are in the process of notifying their families. Police initially said the teenagers were twin brothers, but did not elaborate on their relationship at the press conference.
