A Mexican migrant dies after falling from the border wall in Texas

A 24-year-old Mexican migrant lost his life this Friday when he fell from the border wall that divides Mexico and the United States, in the part of Texas, according to the authorities of both countries.

The accident occurred in the Ciudad Juárez border, which borders El Paso, Texas, when the man, whose name was not specified, tried to cross to the US side and fell from the top of the iron structure, from about 10 meters Tall.

The Mexican authorities indicated that the man climbed the metal fence on the Mexican side with some ease, tried to accommodate himself for the descent, already on the United States side, but being on the top, he slipped.

Following the fatal fall, US Border Patrol agents arrived at the scene.

Subsequently, they placed a red ribbon, so that the body was lifted and forensic specialists determined the cause of death.

Given the recent increase in the migratory wave, the cases in which migrants lose their lives have also increased on the border between Mexico and the United States.

On June 3, US authorities reported that a man died of health problems due to the high temperatures in the Texas area.

In a statement, they explained that they received the report of the disappearance of a migrant who crossed illegally into the United States.

They detailed that the man fainted near a school in the city of El Paso, but the group he was traveling with did not stop and left him on the floor. Later the agents located him dead.

Critics say it does not have the legal power to do so.

“The summer heat in the West Texas / New Mexico border region is relentless and very dangerous for people trying to enter the United States illegally,” authorities said.

Regarding this type of death, Alberto Cabezas, spokesman for the International Organization for Migration (IOM), said that “migrants put their lives at risk when they go through hard, isolated or inhospitable routes.”

He said that the expectations of migrants to cross “are unrealistic” and the people who promise to cross them give them confusing information and do not think that the border is closed.

Regarding the border, in 2020 there were 186 deaths when trying to cross and so far in 2021, 125 of these cases have occurred.
