41 years have passed since April 5, 1982 when mechanic published his beginning of album and with whom the group revolutionized Spanish pop. This first record, popularly known as clock scrapbook through the design of its cover, it features the influences of synthesizers and the melodies of British techno pop of the time.

It is enough to read the titles of certain subjects of the eponymous debut of Mecano to understand the imprint they left on Spanish popular culture at the end of the 20th century: Today I can’t get up, lost in my room, Make up, I crashed a party… With this work, the band sold 1,000,000 copies in Spain.

Prior to the album’s release, the band had released a few singles. The first was Today I can’t get up. They released it on June 22, 1981. The lyrics were the result of a drunk morning by Nacho Cano, in which he woke up and wrote the first thing that came to mind. The subject is remembered today as a Spanish pop classic.

The second single was lost in my room, which was released at the end of the same year as the single predecessor. This song is considered the first song in which the group broaches the subject of drugs. This is because the lyrics of the song contain the phrase “Lost in my room, I look in the drawer for a pill that can relax me, that can take away a little anxiety”. This led to the song receiving Commentsbecause for many, the letter could encourage drug use.

Once the album went on sale, the Madrid band released several more singles. I crashed a party It was the third single released. Was the song that catapulted them to fame and it became her first number one. Since then, no one has stopped singing and dancing to it. It was recorded in Madrid in 1981. Nacho Cano was only 18 when he wrote it.

Make up It was the band’s fourth single and became the song from the summer of 1982 and in one of the most requested songs on Spanish radios as soon as it was published.

Eventually, the record company decided to release a fifth single, Don’t teach me a lessonwhich had more repercussions in countries like Colombia or Venezuela than in Spain.

Mecano has undoubtedly been a benchmark on the Spanish music scene since its formation in 1981. The Spanish group remained active from 1981 to 1992, with a fleeting reappearance in 1998. The group has sold millions of records worldwide, achieving unprecedented success in countries such as Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Philippines, France, Italy, Japan, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Chile. Without a doubt, Mecano’s melodies have marked our lives.
