Former officer Andrew Golobic faces seven charges for abusing two immigrants under his charge at an ICE detention center
The Prosecutor’s Office announced that the former officer of the Immigration and Customs Service, Andrew Golobic sexually abused two immigrants who were with him in an ICE detention center.
On the day of the abuse, the former ICE employee was assigned to the Alternatives to Deportation, ATD, program from 2015 to 2020, and it was during that period that he committed the acts of abuse, according to a statement “the defendant was given discretion over the degree of freedom and movement granted to the participants under his supervision. He had the authority to decide the type of follow-up, the frequency of reporting, and the level of supervision, as well as the authority to recommend that ATD program participants who violated the conditions of the program be detained or deported.”
According to official information, a federal grand jury returned a seven-count indictment charging Golobic with sex trafficking through force, fraud or coercion; deprive people of their civil rights while acting as a law enforcement officer; tampering with witnesses and obstructing a federal investigation.
While the 51-year-old Golobic’s case is being investigated by the FBI office in Cincinnati, Ohio, as well as the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General, he could face life in prison if found guilty.
So far details of the case are unknown, but it is expected that the authorities will offer more details shortly.
