The actress Helen McCrory, known for her roles in Peaky Blinders and three movies of Harry Potter, died of cancer, according to her husband, the actor Damian Lewis. She was 52 years old.
“Heartbroken, I announce that after a heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and powerful woman Helen McCrory has peacefully died at home surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family.” Lewis announced in a statement posted on his account Twitter.
“She died as she lived. Without fear. God, we love her and we know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. It glowed so brilliantly. Go now, Little One, on the air and thank you“, concluded the leading actor of the series Billons and Homeland, to whom she had been married since 2007 and they had two children, Manon, 14, and Gulliver, 13.
McCrory, born on August 17, 1968 in London, United Kingdom, she was a prolific actress who was able to dazzle British and global audiences. Her successes include The Queen, where she played Cherie Blair, the prime minister’s wife Tony Blair. She also won a BAFTA Award in 1997 for his role in Streetlife.
In recent years it was a fundamental piece of the popular series Peaky Blinders, where she played the charismatic Aunt Polly Gray, the matriarch of the Mafia family of Ireland, in all five seasons of the hit BBC strip released in 2013.
She also played Narcissa Malfoy on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Part 2. Her character was the wife of Lucius Malfoy and the mother of Draco. A year earlier, he also participated in the box office “Skyfall” (2012), from the James Bond saga.

Actor Martin Sheen, who played Tony Blair on “The Queen,” also expressed his condolences, describing her as “very funny, passionate and one of the best actresses of our time”.
She also had roles in high-caliber theatrical presentations. Among them were the vengeful Greek heroine “Medea” in the play of the same name that was presented at the National Theater in 2014, and a woman trapped between a nondescript husband and an irresponsible lover in”The Deep Blue Sea”, in 2016.
McCreary was also noted for his activities outside of show business. She was actively involved in the FeedNHS campaign, which distributed food to frontline healthcare workers during the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“She will not only be remembered for her incredible screen and stage performances, but also for her generosity. She and Damian (Lewis) worked tirelessly during the pandemic to raise millions for others. What a tremendous loss.” Said British comedian Matt Lucas.
