Xbox controllers allow you to change the input on the TV, no more need for the TV remote control

The controllers of our video game consoles have evolved a lot, both in terms of ergonomics (obviously), but also in terms of functionality. Today, it is not uncommon to find an integrated microphone, customizable buttons, dedicated buttons for sharing on social networks.

Some features are a little more technical, of course, but can be very useful on a daily basis. here is a “novelty” of this kind on the Xbox controllers.

Xbox controllers allow you to change the input on the TV

The next time you’re ready to catch up on your Xbox after watching TV, you might not have to reach for the remote again. Indeed, Microsoft is in the process of deploying an update allowing, by simply pressing the Xbox button on the controller, to automatically switch to the input of your television to which your Series X or Series S is connected.

Easily switch to TV mode when you have a download in progress – and nothing else to do – and, still only with the controller, return to the console to check the progress of the process and play, if you can.

No need for the TV remote anymore

Functionality dependent on HDMI-CEC support on newer Xbox consoles. You can enable the opt-in via the “Power mode & startup” section in Settings, then “TV & A/V power options”.

The concept is not really new, either for consoles or for any other HDMI-CEC compatible device in general, but it is a good thing that it is now accessible from the controller of the console. This should save many gamers time on a day-to-day basis, and provide an additional opportunity to put the TV remote to rest.
