Loot in Warhammer 40k Darktide should soon be easier to use, according to a recent dev blog. The sci-fi co-op game’s devs say they’ve been working on a variety of changes to the core system by which players get new gear, and while some of the tweaks are quite significant, players are still concerned about the elements that they remain largely intact.
But first, the good news. The Darktide devs say they’ve heard loud and clear criticism of item acquisition and are taking several steps to make the whole process less frustrating. As it stands, players in Darktide are acquiring new items from a variety of sources: there’s the Armory Exchange, where players can spend coupons earned by completing missions to purchase a rotating selection of gear and trinkets; there’s the Emperor’s Gift, which adds an item to quest completion rewards when certain conditions are met; and there’s the Sire Melk requirement, where players can accept additional challenge contracts for special rewards.
Each of these gear sources are getting a substantial change with the upcoming Darktide patch, Fatshark explains. At the Armory Exchange, you will be able to purchase profane tier versions of any type of weapon allowed at your current tier. Item selection per hour will also be improved, with higher base item ratings and greater potential for improvement.
The Emperor’s Gift will be awarded at the end of each mission, rather than occasionally, based on performance. However, quest performance will still matter, and you’ll get items with a higher potential for completing quests at higher difficulty levels and taking less time to complete.
Sire Melk’s Requisition contracts will require less work and you will earn more bullion for each one. Fatshark says it is also merging the Grimoire and Darktide Script Collection contracts into one contract and making a few additional changes as well.
However, it’s the crafting system, found in the Sanctuary of the Omnissiah, that has players complaining. Fatshark’s post says he’s not changing a controversial element of Perk Refinement and Re-Blessing, which allows players to recast one of a weapon’s buffs or buffs while permanently blocking the other.
This means that even though players can swap out an unwanted perk and perk for a weapon they like, they will still be stuck with the other perk or perk whether they like it or not. At higher levels, according to the story, this always means lower quality gear, and it’s not acceptable to tackle a mission without fully optimized gear.
Overall, however, the changes described by Fatshark should have the net result of players earning gear faster and more often, which means a better chance of finding or creating a mix of perks with which they can work, while still having a reason to try new perks. and blessings they might otherwise have overlooked.
Fatshark says it will continue to monitor player feedback once the next patch goes live and will make additional changes as needed.
