Wanted: Dead is a cross between hack and slash and gunplay, as the player uses a sword and a variety of firearms to smash their way through an army of baddies. This won’t always be the case, as the first boss in the game is the huge Spider Tank, which is much more durable than the mooks that have been faced so far. Luckily, there are a few options available to deal with this robotic arachnid.

The Spider Tank battle in Wanted: Dead takes place in a huge room with circular seats that can be used as cover. The problem is that Spider Tank can break through these barricades while moving, removing any available cover and leaving the player vulnerable to attack. Once this cover is blown, the Spider Tank is free to use its powerful machine guns, its devastating laser cannons in its second phase, a barrage of grenades around the room, and break up the attack with its legs.
It is possible to damage the Spider Tank with shots and grenades, but the player will run out of ammo before dismantling it. This leaves two options; sword or grenade launcher. Using the sword involves entering the Spider Tank’s melee range, which is extremely dangerous, but the risk can be mitigated by running around its back, so it cannot shoot the player . Land a few hits, then dodge or back up to avoid his counterattack. Once enough damage has been dealt, the Spider Tank will enter a stagger animation, allowing it to perform a finishing move, beginning the second combat phase. Use this tactic again in the second phase to kill him.

The Grenade Launcher can be found by killing the random enemy mobs that randomly spawn around the stage, as they will drop one on death. This weapon does a ton of damage to the Spider Tank, but it reloads slowly and can only carry a few rounds at a time. It’s technically a safer option than the sword, but the player must be prepared to jump for cover between shots before the Spider Tank takes them down.
In the second phase of the battle, the Spider Tank will surround the room and destroy most of the barricades. Try to dodge his attacks until he stops moving, as he will eventually revert to his normal movement pattern. Also, watch out for its powerful charged laser blast, which is replaced by shimmering purple light in its stream. When the light goes out, immediately jump to either side and the shot will be dodged. Once the Spider Tank has been defeated in its second phase, it will die in a cutscene.
