There are reference studies for To change ports these days, including Virtuos. The company has been around since the console launched with new releases of games like LA Noire, and has continued to support the console ever since. Some of his recent work, including Dying Light and NieR: Automata, would be some of the Switch’s most impressive ports.
Virtuos CEO Gilles Langourieux spoke about the team’s approach to Switch ports in a recent edition of Famitsu. Here is what was shared on this topic:
You could say that Virtuos is a good match for the times.
Gilles: It is also important to note that the Nintendo Switch is an important platform for Virtuos, in terms of market. When developers decide to release games on multiple home consoles, they often develop them in-house for the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S, then turn to the Nintendo Switch. Many struggle with this porting process, but Virtuos was originally working on asset creation, so we know this area well. We’ve received a lot of positive feedback on our leadership work on Nintendo Switch ports of games like Dying Light: Platinum Edition and NieR: Automata The End of YoRHa Edition.
Therefore, he is very technically savvy when it comes to carrying. What kind of tricks of the trade do you know?
Gilles: When you’re working on porting something, you want the code to be optimized for Switch. However, there is no “If we do this, we’ll be fine” solution, you have to create a custom method for each title. Our first step is to run the game on Switch and from there we can notice and combat any issues that arise, for example “There is a huge load on the CPUs at this point, let’s try this!” We use our experience of years of remastering work for this.
