Vampire Survivors beat Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok to win the BAFTA Game of the Year award.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards took place in London yesterday, and Vampire Survivors surprisingly took home the ceremony’s highest honor. The indie blockbuster won the grand prize for best game, beating other formidable competitors like Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok.

The gaming industry in general has been raving about Vampire Survivors since its full release in September 2022. Diablo’s creator praised it, saying it inspired him to make his own smaller games. , while Xbox head Phil Spencer literally couldn’t. stop playing Vampire Survivors, probably at the expense of his busy schedule.
It’s fantastic that an admittedly smaller game like Vampire Survivors can beat bigger titans like Elden Ring and God of War at a top gaming awards show like the BAFTAs. This is just another reminder that a game’s budget does not and should not dictate its level of quality or mainstream attention.
