On February 2, a certain Valheim was released, a survival game that allows players to explore a vast open world taking place in a fantasized Viking universe. This proposal surfing on the successes of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla or God Of War seems to have already conquered a large audience.
Indeed, Valheim, the cooperative production of Coffee Stain Publishing and Iron Gate Studio available for early access on Steam, has already sold over a million units on Steam, and this in just a week. That’s not all, the title also seems to satisfy players, since it has also collected over 11,000 “extremely positive” opinions from these users.
To continue in the numbers, we also learn that the game has hosted more than 160,000 simultaneous players, thus surpassing the behemoths of the platform, namely Grand Theft Auto V, Apex Legends and even Rocket League. Also to show the growing success of the title, the Swedish studio also announces that it has managed to bring together more than 127,000 viewers simultaneously on Twitch on February 8. According to Richard Svensson, CEO of Iron Gate Studio, the prowess achieved by the survival game is due to the current pandemic situation.
Valheim is a cooperative game focusing on exploring a huge, rather colorful world with very few borders or boundaries, which was released during a global pandemic when many people are locked inside their homes and unable to see their friends and family. Hope being pummeled by a troll together will make them feel better. Thanks to an awesome editor (Coffee Stain Publishing) who made it possible for us to follow our vision and understand that you can’t rush creativity.
-Richard Svensson, CEO, Iron Gate Studio
For his part, Sebastian Badylak, the game’s executive producer, takes advantage of this event to congratulate the know-how of Richard Svensson and the developers of the Iron Gate studio.
When we signed Valheim and Iron Gate, which at the time was just Richard, we knew the game was great, but it continued to exceed our expectations at every turn. Valheim is a perfect example of what an agile and super talented team can accomplish when you give them the space and tools to create what they want. This is just the beginning. Sebastian Badylak, Executive Producer at Coffee Stain Publishing
As a reminder, Valheim is already available on Steam in Early Access at the price of €16.79.
