The universe of PUBG will expand. In addition to the survival-horror The Callisto Protocol, unveiled last December at the Game Awards, two other games based on the battle royale are in development within the Krafton group, which is preparing its IPO.

The information is revealed in an article by Bloomberg who looks back on the journey of Kim Chang-han, “computer prodigy” who was never successful before joining Bluehole as executive producer and convincing Brendan Greene to join him in South Korea to develop a battle royale: PUBG. First released in March 2017 on PC, then on consoles, the title is one of the biggest hits of all time with more than 70 million sales, not to mention the 600 million downloads of PUBG Mobile.

Now, the South Korean group Krafton, which brings together Bluehole, PUBG Studio and Striking Distance, plans to go public in the second half of 2021. According to a report by Eugene Investment & Securities Co, the valuation of the firm would reach 27.2 billion dollars, more than Take-Two Interactive (22.6 billion) or Bandai Namco (19.7 billion).

The Callisto Protocol is developed by Dead Space alumni, including creator Glen Schofield

Knowing that PUBG represents the majority of Krafton’s turnover (more than $ 1.1 billion between January and September 2020), the group intends to use the license to diversify its catalog of games. The Bloomberg article mentions The Callisto Protocol, a survival horror set 300 years in the future of PUBG, but also a new battle royale which will be released on mobile this year and another game planned for PC and consoles “by next year”.
