Dreams, this title that looks like a studio creation tool Media Molecule, garnered a lot of attention when it was released in 2020 as a PlayStation 4 exclusive. It proved to be a powerful game creation tool, spawning tons of user creations that anyone could download and play. But it seems like sales were never great, despite the positive reviews, and now Media Molecule has reported on their blog that they’re about to end support for the game.

The studio announces that it will be leaving the service next September, adding the following:

“We know this won’t be an easy message for everyone to hear, and it certainly wasn’t an easy decision. Dreams was a special project for Media Molecule and has helped this thriving community of game developers, playful, creative, collaborative, and dreamers to grow and express themselves is still one of the best things we’ve ever done.”

They also explain that they would have loved to continue improving and developing Dreams, but in the end, it was not a financially viable option:

“While we’ve always had a desire to build on the foundation of Dreams and expand the experience, as we reviewed our plans, we weren’t able to chart a sustainable path.”

You will still be able to play and create entire universes in Dreams even after September, but there will be no new content or Media Molecule maintenance. The special one positive reading What we take away from all of this is that the team is moving on to a new project, something they’re “incredibly excited about.”
