Although Bethesda’s RPG epics often deal with mature themes, they are rarely explicit. It’s what helped The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4 achieve a 15+ rating in Australia at launch, making them accessible to the general public.

However, it looks like Starfield will be something different. The title, which will be Bethesda Game Studios’ first original IP in over 25 years, has just been given a firm release date after last year’s delay and opens in September. That means we’re about six months away from launch, and now the global video game content rating organizations have started rating Starfield by age.

The first was the Australian Classification Board, and it turns out he got a qualification for over 18 (+18). Although Australia has a reputation for being tough on games, here are the motivations behind this decision: moderate impact themes and language, high impact violence, very low impact nudity, high impact drug use, and finally no sex.

Are you surprised that Starfield is getting a higher age rating than previous Bethesda Game Studios titles, or is it what you expected?
