sony was the highest-ranked game publisher of 2022, according to a list published by review aggregator Metacritic. This is an increase from last year, when the company was ranked second, losing the top spot to Microsoft.

Sony released 15 “good” games in 2022

Not one of the 15 Sony-rated games released last year got a bad Metascore. The average rating for all of its 2022 releases was 85.6/100. Two of the games were rated “excellent” (90/100 or better).

Ranking games include God of War Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, The Last of Us Part 1, and PC versions of critically acclaimed games like God of War (2018) and Marvel’s Spider-Man.

In contrast, Microsoft failed to qualify for Metacritic’s annual Publishers Ranking due to releasing only four separate ranked games. The aggregation threshold is five games.

Of all the games released by Sony over the past year, the lowest Metascore was held by MLB: The Show 22, now a cross-platform game. The popular baseball title scored 77/100.

Paradox Interactive was the second best publisher of 2022, according to Metacritic, followed by Activision Blizzard, Focus Entertainment and Take-Two Interactive. Given its size compared to other major publishers, Focus Entertainment is an outlier, one that has released well-received games like A Plague Tale: Requiem.
